A cross-platform iOS and Android app built for engagement — one codebase, both stores, offline-first, with the analytics to keep improving after launch.

Challenge

A startup needed to launch on iOS and Android quickly with a small engineering team — without doubling effort across two native codebases — while still feeling native and supporting offline use where connectivity was unreliable.

Approach

We chose React Native with a shared TypeScript codebase, dropping to native modules only where performance demanded it. Engagement was designed in from the start: push notifications, offline-first data with conflict resolution, and a frictionless onboarding flow to minimise drop-off at first launch.

Solution

A single codebase shipped to both stores via Expo, with offline data sync, push notification infrastructure, in-app analytics instrumentation, and a CI pipeline that submitted to both stores on merge. The analytics layer gave the team the signal they needed to iterate on engagement after launch.

Results

  • Launched on the App Store and Google Play from one codebase, on schedule
  • Day-30 retention reached ~60% in early cohorts — representative of the engagement this build approach targets
  • Offline sync kept the app fully functional in low-connectivity environments
  • Analytics instrumentation gave the product team clear post-launch iteration signal
